The Gulfstream V-SP (GV-SP) has successfully completed a record-breaking first flight. The five hour and one minute flight was the longest-duration first flight of a new type aircraft in Gulfstream history.
The GV-SP is capable of flying eight passengers and four crew 6,750 nautical miles.
Its manufacturers claim the aircraft can fly direct from New York to Tokyo in 14 hours, 30 minutes without refuelling.
Standard equipment in the GV-SP includes the Gulfstream Enhanced Vision system. This is designed to improve the pilot’s situational awareness when faced with reduced visibility and at night. The pilot is provided with an optical image of runway markings, taxiways and surrounding landscape.
Compared to the Gulfstream V, the GV-SP is equipped with enhanced passenger features. Passengers are provided with up to four distinct living areas, increased baggage space and two additional windows.
Following the outcome of FAA certification later this year, the first GV-SP customer delivery is expected in the fourth quarter of 2003.
