Romanian Airport Services (RAS) has signed an agreement with Baneasa Airport to extend handling services to cater for all traffic at the airport. The company has provided for business aviation operators and ad-hoc charter for the last five years. EBAN spoke to Dorin Ivascu, president of RAS, about what the change would mean for business aviation travellers to the airport:\r"The agreement means that we will provide an even better service as we are now in control of all handling equipment at the airport and also in direct control of all staff involved. Before, some of the equipment and staff had to be rented from the airport authority.\r"Staff involved with our ops office have gone through a two-week training course with reference to things like flight planning and SITA messages. All staff that have contact with our clients had to undertake an examination to assess the level of their English, and all are now taking lessons." According to Ivascu, RAS now employs all ground handling staff at the airport, tripling the number of company employees. \rRAS is now referring to the airport as Baneasa-Bucharest City Airport, and is publicising its proximity to Bucharest and the size of its facilities to encourage regional airlines to fly there. Further developments on other Romanian airports are planned, with a handling franchise already in place at Iasa Airport.
