Captain Rudolf Iten has won himself a Jeppesen Aluminium Flight Case. The 35-year-old, who works for Switzerland's Skyjet AG, said: "That's great. I'm delighted to have won this case because I have several which are all worn out. It's come at a very good time and will be used straight away."\rIten's entry was picked from hundreds of entrants to EBAN's annual FBO feedback questionnaire. The results of the survey were, as always, particularly revealing and highlighted the vast array and quality of services that may be experienced at any one FBO in Europe.\rEBAN spoke to Rudolph Iten regarding his own FBO feedback answers but firstly, about the general standards of European FBOs. He said: "They differ greatly, anything between nothing and high standards. Sometimes you are forced to use an FBO even if you don't want to. In Frankfurt or Paris Le Bourget, for example, the service is very poor compared to handling agents in Hamburg."\rAsked why FBO handling standards seem to vary so wildly in Europe, Iten said: "I guess it's mainly the airport that has a big influence on it. In Frankfurt, you are forced to use it by the airport authority because of the traffic restrictions they impose and you are therefore forced to spend a lot of money on it. \r"In Le Bourget, it's exactly the same. Its a business airport and you are forced to use a handling agent if you're going to Le Bourget. Therefore, they don't have to do a lot to receive a lot of aircraft. If there was competition between handling agents, between FBOs or even between airports, of course they would make a big effort to maintain a good service."\rIn response to the questionnaire, Iten highlighted Gözen Air Service of Istanbul and Service People of Hamburg as particularly capable and reliable handlers. Iten said: "At Istanbul Airport, it's very difficult to deal with anybody if you don't have a handling agent because they don't speak English except for very few controllers. There are many handling agents and companies trying to do handling but its a real mess. Gözen is the only one which gets you through quickly and if you give an order, it works.\r"There are other FBOs where you have to define everything, you have to send several faxes telling them who you are, what you are going to do etc. The effort to organise the handling is, in some places, very different; you need to do much more just to get a handling agent ready.\r"Service People in Hamburg are very helpful. They even help you if you don't pay your bills. Once, I asked them to make some phone calls for me and they did it because I had been there once before. They are very supportive of general aviation. Also, when you are there, they ask what they can do for you. You don't have to tell them everything. They are very professional.\r"By contrast, Fragas in Frankfurt don't do anything. They just pick you up from the aircraft, that's it. You have to file your own flight plan, you have to get your own slots, you have to ask for the weather briefing, you have to do your own billing, you have to do everything. If you have a good day, they might organise some catering for you, but that's all!"
