Britten-Norman, manufacturer of the Islander and Trislander, has called in the receivers. \rMelanie Monk, spokesperson for Britten-Norman, told EBAN: "We are under administrative receivership as of Monday, April 3. At the moment, we have got the receivers here and they are actively seeking to sell Britten-Norman as a going concern. We have got about 21 staff left here to help maintain things, 112 people have been made redundant."\rSome employees claim to be owed seven weeks pay by the Isle of Wight-based company, it is reported. Receivers Chris Loughton and Maurice Moses of accountants Levy Gee blamed "cash flow problems", and said that they hoped the job losses would be temporary. \r"This is a very regrettable situation for a company with a good order book and requisite approvals from the CAA and MOD," said Chris Loughton of Levy Gee. "The business is now being marketed for sale and we are hopeful that a buyer will be found. Time is of the essence to conclude a deal which we hope may reverse some of the job losses." \rLast June, Britten-Norman reportedly paid £13 million for Romanian aerospace company Romaero, one of its long-standing sub-contractors. It is believed that this purchase put a strain on resources. "New investors had been sought but cash flow problems eventually resulted in the directors requesting its bankers to appoint administration receivers," commented a spokesperson for Levy Gee.\rBased at Bembridge airport, the aircraft design, manufacture and overhaul company has manufactured Islander, Defender and Trislander aircraft, 800 of which are in service around the world.
