Sweden’s Norrlandsflyg has added another two Sikorksy 76As to its fleet, the second of which will be delivered in July.
The aircraft are leased through ABB Credit Finans, much like a number of other helicopters in the company’s ten-strong fleet. “The Sikorsky we have already had delivered is dedicated to air ambulance (EMS) and is on standby 24 hours a day for a hospital. Four of our S76s are used for air ambulance and another two are employed in search and rescue,” said md, Monica Hedström.
The Sikorsky was reconfigured for EMS by Keystone Helicopters in the US and entered operation immediately upon delivery.
“There is not too much competition for EMS in Sweden as there are only three companies performing it.
“In general the charter market in Sweden is not very large, although there are a number of smaller companies with one or two helicopters,” said Hedström.
She explained the reasons for choosing the Sikorsky 76A: “This is the best helicopter for our purposes, it’s just perfect for air ambulance. It’s a good size, fast, quiet inside and very reliable.” The second Sikorsky will be used for search and rescue missions once delivered.
