Adams Aviation Supply Co. Ltd. has announced sales of over 150 units of its Kannad range this year, since JAR OPS called for mandatory ELT (emergency locator transmitter) installation on January 1.
Despite competition for the production for ELTs, md Frank Gosling told EBAN that the regulations had made a significant impact on sales.
“Currently CAA OPS do not insist on compliance, but it’s only a matter of time before they fall in line with JAR OPS and most in the UK are already complying or planning to do so,” he said.
Gosling explained how models such as his own Kannad 406 AF aided in emergencies: “This is a means of last resort for when the aircraft either crash lands or crashes.
“The latest models available are now able to give far more accurate details on the aircraft’s whereabouts, so before rescue services set off they can tell what kind of aircraft has gone down and eliminate wasteful deployment.”
The 406 AF is designed to be installed near the tail and connected to an outside antenna.\r
A shock sensor then activates the ELT automatically in the event of a crash.
