Telenor Satellite Services, which has offices in Norway and the US, has announced the commercial launch of Inmarsat aeronautical high-speed data service (Aero HSD).
Based on Inmarsat’s Swift 64 technology, Telenor’s Aero HSD is available globally.
Telenor says it is currently the only provider to offer Inmarsat Aero HSD service for a variety of business, government and commercial aeronautical customers. For aircraft operators and passengers, Aero HSD is said to deliver a cost-effective global extension of their corporate information technology systems.
Said general manager Tore Hilde: “The Telenor Aero HSD service uses ISDN technology to provide reliable mobile satellite communications at speeds up to 64 kbps, permitting users to transfer large files such
as proposals, presentations, and complex graphics and images. Users also can send large e-mail and
fax messages, participate in videoconferences, and connect to their corporate LAN/WAN.”
“Telenor’s Aero HSD service also allows customers to browse the internet at speeds consistently higher than those allowed by conventional dial-up modems.”
