In the middle of the first quarter of 2002, Lufthansa’s vip and executive jet services at its Hamburg base delivered the world's first BBJ 2 with an entirely customised cabin interior. Completed under contract for a private customer, the aircraft had been flown to Hamburg in June 2001.
Lufthansa Technik says the delivery of this aircraft type represents a very important world premiere. Having already converted all the more common Boeing and Airbus models into vip jets, the company’s engineers brought their experience to bear on this latest version from the BBJ.
Meanwhile a second BBJ 2 went under completion at the vip facilities directly after its arrival from PATS, Inc., in Georgetown, Delaware where the auxiliary fuel tanks had been installed. When it landed in Hamburg, its interior was bare and unfinished just as the fuselage was green and unpainted.
The third BBJ 2 currently prepared for its outfitting with a luxurious interior has been contracted by Multiflight Ltd. Simultaneously, it will be the first UK-based and G-registered Boeing 737-800 corporate jet derivative.
With a 19-seat passenger layout, the aircraft will consist of: A very large and comprehensive galley; two lounges, one of which converts into a wide screen cinema with 'surround sound', the other into a dining room; a master bedroom and private office.
Two luxurious bathrooms are also to be included, one with a spacious shower. Lufthansa says great attention is also being devoted to reducing cabin noise as it believes this is one of the most tiring aspects of long-range travel.
In order to make the aircraft as comfortable as possible, a new humidification and zonal drying system is to be developed and installed. The aircraft has a range of over 5,000nm and will be available for charter.
