Jet Aviation Geneva repairs corrosion on G-II

Jet Aviation Geneva has performed a complete wing de-mate on a Gulfstream II as part of a large-scale maintenance project after corrosion was found on the aircraft’s wings.

In addition to the corrosion found on both wings, more was detected after x-ray and ultrasonic inspections were carried out under the main landing gear locks, between the fuselage and the wings. More was found in the cloth pin fittings and along the torque box. It was necessary for both wings to be removed while these inspections were carried out. The damaged areas of the aircraft will be replaced, and during this time the corrosion repair will take place.

Günter Huf, vice president and general manager of Jet Aviation, stated that the corroded areas “will be treated with alodine, a coating for aluminium, and painted before the aircraft is delivered to the customer.”

It is the first time that Jet Aviation Geneva has performed repairs of this kind, and it was necessary to ship shoring equipment from its facility at West Palm Beach to carry out the operation.
