UK entrepreneur fulfils dream with Burman purchase
Cranfield-based helicopter sales and services business, Burman Aviation, has been sold to top UK entrepreneur Peter Rigby for an undisclosed sum. The new business will trade as Patriot Aviation and retain all existing staff.

Cranfield-based helicopter sales and services business, Burman Aviation, has been sold to top UK entrepreneur Peter Rigby for an undisclosed sum. The new business will trade as Patriot Aviation and retain all existing staff.

The acquisition fulfils a long-held ambition for Rigby who has a lifelong interest in aviation, holding ratings for operating and flying both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Rigby says it is his intention to build Patriot Aviation into one of the UK’s leading helicopter executive charter and sales operations.

“Growing frustrations with road and rail travel are driving increasing numbers of businessmen and women to look for viable transport alternatives,” he said. “Patriot Aviation will fill the gap in the market for flexible executive charter and aircraft supply and operations based around exceptional customer service.”

Patriot Aviation has already attracted one industry personality as its new managing director, in the form of Mike Creed. The former sales director of Sloane Helicopters brings more than 33 year’s experience across helicopters, fixed wing and executive jet charter, sales and services. Creed says he’s enthusiastic about plans to expand and develop the business.

He said: “Initially we will build on our excellent reputation for helicopter charter, engineering and flight training with the addition of a new aircraft agency,” he said. “We will expand and develop our Cranfield facilities and extend into fixed wing and executive jet charter later this year.”
