Thales Avionics’ Head-Up Flight Display System (HFDS) has obtained certification on the Global Express at Bombardier’s test centre in Kansas.
According to the company, Thales’ HUD is fully integrated into baseline avionics on the Global Express, therefore eliminating the need of a dedicated control panel. It uses a concept which defines the outside parameters such as horizon, radio navigation and speed.
In addition, Thales Avionics’ Integrated Electronic Standby Instrument (IESI) has received supplementary type certification through Bombardier’s completion centre for installation on Global Express Aircraft. The IESI is offered by Bombardier’s completion centres in Montreal and Tucson and also by the sub-contracted facilities in the USA and UK for all Global Express customers.
The IESI has already been certified as an option on the Dash 8 Q400 series. It is also certified as standard production installation on the CRJ 700. It will be standard fit on the BD 100 Continental and the CRJ 900.
The IESI provides the classical standby instrument functions of aircraft attitude, airspeed and altitude inside a single electronic instrument. The instrument also provides the data interface with other avionics systems to display additional information.
According to the company, the IESI offers Global Express operators significant benefits including increased reliability compared to electromechanical instruments, reduced cost-of-ownership, improved product support and enhanced instrument performance.
