Multiflight Ltd is about to take delivery of a BBJ2 – the latest and biggest Boeing Business Jet – and is fitting it out with a luxury interior to carry 19 passengers. Total cost will be in the region of $60 million.
Multiflight is taking delivery of the green aircraft on September 27, 2001. It will be flown from Seattle directly to a completions centre in Germany for its luxury interior.
This process will take around nine months and Multiflight will then start its exclusive long-range luxury charters in October 2002.
David Hood, founder and chairman of Multiflight, said: “The aircraft will have a typical range of 5,400 miles. We will be able to fly our clients anywhere in the world with a maximum of just two fuel stops. This aircraft can be classed as a flying hotel/flying boardroom, and at the destination it can act as a ground conference centre.”
Md Steve Borrowdale said: “Facilities include a master bedroom with private office; two lounges, one of which converts into a wide-screen cinema with surround sound; a dining room; and an exercise area. Two luxurious bathrooms are to be included, both of which will have spacious showers.
“An extra large galley area means ‘a la carte’ fresh food can be cooked to cordon bleu standard aboard the aircraft. There is a huge choice of films and music at each individual seat and access to phone and fax, and through personal laptops to the internet. Great attention has been paid to reducing cabin noise throughout as this is seen as one of the most tiring aspects of long-range travel.
“The picture and sound quality of in-flight entertainment is often poor compared with high street technology,” says Hood, also the founder of Pace Micro Technology plc. We are using a radical new method of distributing the audio and video using IP protocol.”
Multiflight's BBJ2 will be operated by Executive Jet Charter Ltd and certificated under European JAR operations rules. The BBJ2 will have a two-man flight crew, a flight engineer, and a minimum of two flight attendants.
It will be based at Leeds/Bradford International Airport, where the company already has a sales and maintenance base, and offers flight training on both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.
