The law enforcement directorate of the Rhineland-Palatinate Land is to replace its three BO 105 helicopters with the EC135. Eurocopter says that the first EC 135 will be bought under a leasehold arrangement over the next eight years, and the other two at a later date.
Features include: digital autopilot, night vision goggles, infrared searchlights, gyrostabilized digital camera with thermal imaging and a flight management system. Delivery of the first EC 135 is set for April 2002.
Meanwhile, Eurocopter has unveiled the new twin-engine EC 145, which is a modified version of the BK 117-C1. The cabin can now carry nine passengers and the company says that benefits include low noise levels, higher performance capabilities and greater comfort. Cabin access is also easier, due to the elimination of the central uprights, and the presence of two large sliding doors and a rear clamshell door.
