Oxaero has confirmed that its brand new Cessna Citation Excel will arrive at Oxford before Easter next year, with a provisional delivery date of February 20, 2002. The final specifications for the APU-equipped aircraft were also confirmed, featuring leather seats that rotate through 360 degrees, an enclosed stand-up toilet and wash area, and a large external baggage bay with room for up to 10 hard suitcases.
Md Alex Durand said: “The Excel will complete the renewal of our fleet, which together with the CitationJet and the Citation V Ultra will offer a full range of European charter options. The CitationJet recently completed its RVSM modifications at CSE Bournemouth.”
Commenting on recent announcements from other UK operators, Durand added: “Certain people are trying to build up a showdown between the Excel and the Lear 45. Both are fantastic aircraft, and while we believe most passengers will prefer the Excel’s larger more comfortable cabin, others may prefer the Lear’s slightly better speed and range – essentially these preferences already exist between our Ultra and the Learjet 35.
“There are huge external pressures on the European industry at the moment, and attempts to create inter-operator conflicts benefit no one. The next year or two will be fascinating as fleet renewals
start to change the market, but this will not necessarily result in world domination for any particular operator!”
With regard to the Excel, Durand added: “Our customers are also very excited about its arrival. The stand-up cabin, trailing-link undercarriage and independent cabin heater controls will greatly enhance passenger comfort and enjoyment, as will the DVD player, Sat Phone, and computer and fax points.”
