Executive 146 flies Basle to Bournemouth
Charter broker Intradco has arranged a Heavylift Volga-Dnepr AN 124 movement to carry a BAe 146 aircraft from Basle to Bournemouth in the UK. The low hours 146, formerly operated as a private executive jet, was acquired for spares by UK-based Commercial Aerospace Services Company (CASCO). The wings and tail were removed before loading, and travelled on the same flight. Even so, the cargo was a very tight fit.

Charter broker Intradco has arranged a Heavylift Volga-Dnepr AN 124 movement to carry a BAe 146

aircraft from Basle to Bournemouth in the UK.

The low hours 146, formerly operated as a private executive jet, was acquired for spares by UK-based Commercial Aerospace Services Company (CASCO). The wings and tail were removed before loading, and travelled on the same flight. Even so, the cargo was a very tight fit.

Although the 146 utilised only a fraction of the giant aircraft’s 130 tonne payload, it took almost all of the height of the AN 124’s vast nose opening to accommodate the fuselage, which was wheeled onto and off the aircraft with only a fraction of an inch to spare.

General Manager of Intradco Adam Fisher said: “The high value of the shipment made air charter value, but only the AN124 was cost-effective. We have moved many aircraft in this way previously, but this 146 was the largest to date and required a great deal of careful manoeuvring.”
