Following evaluation of Twinjet Aircraft’s application for Extended Twin Engine Operations (ETOPS) lodged in March 2000, the UK Civil Aviation Authority has, for the first time, granted approval for an A319 corporate jet to fly commercially on 120 minute ETOPS routes.
A spokesman for Airbus Industrie confirmed that this is the first such approval for an A319CJ.
The award of this licence enables Twinjet to operate flights using suitable airports as designated alternates that are up to 1,500 kilometres away from any point on the planned route.
Twinjet’s maiden ETOPS flight departed London Luton Airport within 48 hours of receiving the approval. The flight was bound for Jamaica via Bermuda.
Also, the company has appointed two new directors to its board. Andrew Pearce has taken the position of sales director and will be responsible for all aspects of Twinjet’s aircraft remarketing activities in the corporate jet field.
Stephen Wells, commercial director, will continue with his responsibilities to develop and grow the company’s public transport charter services for both the A319CJ operation and international brokerage services.
