Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics has received German Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) certification of its Head-up Guidance System (HGS) on the Bombardier Challenger 604 business jet.
DaimlerChrysler Aviation based in Stuttgart welcomed the LBA certification in order to activate the HGS on its already provisioned 604 fleet. Birger Wendt, vp of flight operations said, "We believe HGS is a valuable safety tool, enhancing situational awareness, and helping to keep pilot attention outside of the cockpit."
Among other benefits, the accuracy and precision offered by the HGS on manually-flown approaches helps the pilot to more easily manage the aircraft's energy and to more precisely land the aeroplane in the touchdown zone, says Rockwell Collins. This precision control helps to maximise available runway length, an important consideration especially on wet or snowy surfaces.
