BFGoodrich Aerospace is to supply Falcon 50s with an advisory ice detection system.
The system offers pilots improved capability in detecting the presence of ice while in flight. A sensing probe that collects ice three times faster than the typical aircraft wing notifies the flight crew via an indicator light in the cockpit when ice is detected.
Also BFGoodrich Avionics Systems has formed a strategic alliance with Rockwell Collins. It is intended to offer customers more competitive overall avionics solutions for business and regional jet aircraft.
The alliance will provide more opportunities for the complete integration of aircraft systems, including primary flight, navigation, communications, safety and standby systems.
Meanwhile BFGoodrich has launched the first multimedia website designed to educate and demonstrate the new Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS). Entitled "Discover", the interactive website features an explanation of the TAWS mandate and an overview of BFGoodrich's TAWS named LandMark.
The LandMark system provides a continuous, colour, birds-eye view of the surrounding terrain. It offers predictive warning functions using the position from a GPS receiver, altitude information, and aircraft configuration - it then compares that information to a terrain and obstacle database.
In other news the company's avionics and lighting systems division has been selected to provide the Electronic Standby Instrument System and the Electronic Bearing Distance Indicator as standard equipment for the Gulfstream V-SP aircraft programme.
