Jet Aviation Basel has been selected by Boeing to perform the completion and outfitting of a BBJ. This particular aircraft will be used by Boeing as a corporate workhorse, as well as demonstrating the capabilities of the BBJ to potential customers.
In selecting Jet Aviation to outfit this high-profile aircraft, Thomas M. Lindberg, vp of Boeing Business Jets, said, "We want to have this plane ready for the 2001 NBAA convention, so an on-time completion is critical."
Referring to the deadline, Rainer Albecker, vp/general manager for Jet Aviation Basel commented, "This is a relatively short turnaround time for a project and aircraft of this magnitude, but we will deliver on-time."
This BBJ will incorporate several innovative features. Boeing is developing an airborne business entertainment/information tele-communication system, which will feature an internet data port at each seat connected to a main server.
Another feature being developed is a system for electrically polarising the windows to block ultraviolet light, while allowing the passenger a full view outside. This will be the first airborne application of this technology.
The BBJ will also boast two "Aqua-Jet" showers that will make use of recycled water.
