Rushmore Borough Council recently passed a resolution approving the outline planning permission for TAG Aviation's proposed development of the UK's Farnborough Airport. TAG says it plans to make Farnborough the leading business aviation airport in Europe.
Roger McMullin, ceo of TAG Aviation Holding said, "With the planning approval behind us, we can now proceed with the safety, runway, ATC, and navigation enhancements that will permit full CAA certification during the third quarter of 2002."
TAG's planning approval provides for 28,000 movements per year, including 1,500 movements of aircraft in the category of the Boeing BBJ and Airbus 319. Current movements at Farnborough number 14,000 annually, with traffic growing at a rate of about 15 per cent per year. McMullin stated that "these figures are generally consistent with our business plan, as other London-area airports become increasingly affected by slot restrictions and traffic delays due to airline operations."
As part of the proposed development, TAG intends to new terminal and hangar facilities on the north side of the airfield. The relocation of the passenger terminal to the opposite side of the field will simplify access and shorten the drive into London.
