Travolta drops in on Keflavik during peace tour
John Travolta recently stopped to refuel at Keflavik Airport, Iceland as he continues on his ‘Spirit of Friendship’ tour. The film star, a flying fanatic, is ambassador-at-large for the tour and is flying his own Boeing 707-138B, which has been reconfigured with a business jet interior.

John Travolta recently stopped to refuel at Keflavik Airport, Iceland as he continues on his ‘Spirit of Friendship’ tour. The film star, a flying fanatic, is ambassador-at-large for the tour and is flying

his own Boeing 707-138B, which has been reconfigured with a business jet interior.

The aircraft has two lounges, a bedroom and a crew room, with furnishings which can only be described as lavish.

Travolta, a qualified captain for aircraft including the Gulfstream II, Lear 24, Hawker 1A, Citation 1 and 2, is also a qualified first officer in the Boeing 707. He purchased the former Qantas aircraft and had it repainted to look exactly as it did in 1964, as well as renaming it Clipper Jett Ella. The airline is sponsoring

the trip, which will see Travolta take in some 64,700 kilometres and 80 flight hours in an effort to spread the word of peace in the aftermath of September 11.

Technical difficulties meant that the aircraft was running a little late and the planned one-night stop over in Iceland had to be cancelled. The 707 is now travelling through Europe, where it will take in London, Rome, Paris and Frankfurt before flying onto New York and home to Los Angeles.

After 5,000 hours in various cockpits, Travolta was recently presented with his wings by Qantas ceo and md, Geoff Dixon. The self-confessed aircraft ‘geek’ even named his son Jett, after his passion.
