Gulfstream has installed the first Enhanced Vision System (EVS) on a GIV-SP test aircraft. The EVS incorporates a Forward Looking Infrared camera that projects a real-world image on the pilots Honeywell HUD.

This provides an optical image, including runway markings, taxiways, adjacent roads and surrounding landscape during conditions of reduced visibility and at night. Gulfstream claims that the system improves overall situational awareness, helping crews avoid runway incursions and similar hazards.

FAA certification of the system is expected by the end of 2002 and installation will begin in early 2003.
