MedAire is offering its “Management of Inflight Illness and Injury” course at Farnborough Airport in the UK. Both two-day initial and one-day recurrent courses are available, to be taught by emergency

medical professionals.

“In addition to teaching first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator use, the class takes into account the limitations of the aircraft environment, as well as the physical demands flying and high altitude can have on the body”, said Kathleen Sieperman, MedAire’s vice president of education services.

The course prepares students for providing emergency medical care in the aviation-specific environment. Training includes a focus on human anatomy, altitude physiology, assessing medical emergencies, use of oxygen systems and treatment for illnesses and injuries that commonly occur onboard aircraft. Qualifications in CPR and AED can also be gained.
