FAA has approved Max-Viz's corporate Cessna 421T equipped with the company’s Enhanced Vision System (EVS). It is approved for flight demonstrations to potential operators and OEM customers.
The EVS provides the pilot with images of the real world in darkness or poor visibility, generating images of the area in front of the aircraft in flight and on the ground. These can be displayed on a HUD or a video-capable head down cockpit display. Max-Viz says that the systems allow the pilot to ensure a safe takeoff, approach and landing in conditions of poor visibility.
Recently, the C421 aircraft was used to explore EVS performance in heavy smoke conditions by flying near the Oregon wildfires. Gregg Fawkes, Max-Viz president said: “An increasing percentage of aircraft incidents are associated with operations at night or in poor visibility. We’re demonstrating technology that is specifically designed to help prevent some of these accidents from happening.”
