Internet trip planning comes online
Two new web services have been started that allow pilots to do their trip planning online. At Oshkosh, AeroPlanner.com was launched. The site also boasts the ability to overlay the plotted route onto a current weather map. "Normally these functions are done by hand and/or with flight computers. "In recent years, computer applications have been used to perform these calculations. Now they are available free, online," said Mark Munsell, president of IMAPS, the company that built AeroPlanner.com. Sky-Alliance.com is a European site in much the same vein, offering regular weather pictures and purch-asing through a secure credit card.
