Farnborough's organisers brand the airshow a success
Farnborough International 2000 was decreed a success by its organisers. The Society of British Aerospace Companies' (SBAC) director of exhibitions said: "FI2000 broke all previous records with $52 billion (£35 billion) of orders announced during the event - four times that of 1996 and twice 1998's figure." SBAC is patting itself on the back for moving the exhibition to summertime. Trade attendance over five days was 170,000; 133,000 members of the public attended at the weekend. The dates of Farnborough International 2002 have been confirmed as July 22-28.
