Danish government signs up for more special mission Challenger 604s

The UK's Farnborough Airshow was the venue for Bombardier Aerospace to sign a contract with the Royal Danish Air Force to supply two additional Challenger 604s. This brings to three the number of aircraft sold to the Danish government in the past two and a half years.

Like the initial 604 which was delivered to the RDAF eight months ago, the two new aircraft will be used primarily in a multi-role capability, supporting maritime surveillance missions (fisheries protection and anti-pollution) as well as search and rescue operations throughout Danish coastal juris-diction in Europe and Greenland.

They will also provide the government with long-range vip transportation capability and medical evacuation. All three 604 aircraft will be based initially at Vaerloose, north of Copenhagen.

Said Rob Gillespie, president Bombardier Aerospace, Business Aircraft: By utilising the full resources of Bombardier Aerospace, we are able to guarantee an entire package under one very cost-effective contract. This includes providing the best platform and specialised completion capabilities plus customised pilot and maintenance training."

The Challenger jets will roll out of Bombardier's production facility at Montreal International Airport (Dorval) in fall 2000.

They will then be ferried to the company's facility in Tucson for interior completion, and then to Bombardier Services at Montreal International Airport (Mirabel) to be equipped with their special mission modifications. Pilot training is being provided at the Bombardier Aerospace Training Center in Montreal.
