Eclipse Aviation has announced a new Extended Range option for the Eclipse 500 jet.

The option features two removable tip tanks, which increase the maximum range from 1,600nm to 1,825nm.

All Eclipse 500 aircraft will be equipped with provisions for attaching the tip tanks, which can be easily added or removed by a certified aircraft mechanic.

"The Extended Range option demonstrates our commitment to support a broad range of customer requirements," said Vern Raburn, president and ceo of Eclipse Aviation.

"The Extended Range option is perfect for people who take long trips and fly with less than the maximum passenger load. The extra 225 nautical miles can make the difference between a one-stop and a non-stop flight."

The maximum cruise speed for the Eclipse 500 with the Extended Range option is 345kts, the take-off distance 2,400 feet, and the empty weight is just 2,770lbs. Pricing for the Extended Range option has not been announced. Availability is projected for Q1, 2004.
