With effect from May 1, 2000, Farnborough Aviation Services has changed its name to FASET - Farnborough Aviation Services Engineering Technology. EBAN spoke to Les Batty, md, regarding the company's most recent decision. Batty said: "We've purposely kept ourselves fairly low profile over the past four to five years, waiting until we had built the business to the stage it is at now. We think now is the right time to reinvent the business, and bring out a new logo and new brochure." \rBatty says the company has been thinking about changing the name for the past five months. He said: "It can be a dangerous exercise because people immediately think that you've either been bought out or are going broke. "In our case, we wanted a new style for the company, and we wanted to get away from other people's logos, so we decided to create something quite modern."\rAlso based at Farnborough airfield is Farnborough Aviation Sales (FAS). Their close presence, explained Batty, was another good reason to change his company's name. He said: "People tend to associate ourselves with them. We get on well and work together but I needed to create my own identity and I thought the timing was good." \rWith the current extension of Farnborough airport, Batty believes his company is now doing as well as any of its competitors. He said: "Compared with Metro and some of the other companies, we probably turn over more executive jets. \r"Growth is generally quite strong at Farnborough and we've grown with it. Sometimes it is about being in the right place at the right time. With Hatfield closing, it was a shame for Hatfield, but we got one or two aircraft from there and you build up a bit of a reputation."\rFarnborough Aviation Services was set up in December 1991 with "just a couple of engineers" and has since grown to a staff base of 25.
