Britten-Norman goes to Middle East buyer
Isle-of-Wight aircraft manufacturer Britten-Norman has been sold by its administrative receivers to buyers from the sultanate of Oman. Chairman of the new company, B-N Group Ltd, will be Alawi Zawawi. His brothers, Talal Zawawi and A. Munim Zawawi, will also serve on the board.

Munim Zawawi, will also serve on the board.\rBritten-Norman, which has currently almost £6 million worth of aircraft under construction, and with an order book totalling nearly £12 million, had been left struggling to finance work in progress after a previous refinancing offer by the Ruler of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) was withdrawn.\rMr Chris Laughton of London accountants Levy Gee, appointed by Barclays Bank three weeks ago as receiver, announced the successful sale. \rB-N Group has pledged full support for all existing operators of the company's products worldwide.\rIn addition to their commitment to continue producing Islander, Trislander and Defender aircraft, B-N Group plans to develop the existing factory's facilities to manufacture other types of aircraft. \rMore than 100 staff were dismissed by the receiver upon his appointment. A company spokesman said: "It is hoped that B-N Group will be a thriving source of employment for the local community on the Isle of Wight."
