London Luton Airport to hand over air traffic control to NATS
London Luton Airport has announced that it is to enter detailed discussions with National Air Traffic Services (NATS), with a view to transferring responsibility for the airport's air traffic control service. Currently, air traffic control at Luton is run by the airport. The talks, which could take several months, will look into ways of implementing a transfer of operations. Once an agreement has been reached, all 58 staff will automatically transfer their employment to NATS. Most staff will remain at Luton; only radar approach staff will be asked to relocate to NATS' terminal control operation at West Drayton. UNISON, the air traffic control staff's union, is said to have given full backing to the proposals.
