Stuttgarter Flugdienst (SFD) GmbH has taken the last step towards its jet-only philosophy by replacing its Beechcraft King Air B200 with a Cessna Citation III. It is the first and only commercially operated jet in this category at Stuttgart Airport. The German charter company's offices have moved to the new General Aviation Terminal, and it now operates jets in four different categories: the Citation V, Citation SII and Citation II/SP. \rThe Citation III is equipped according to JAR-OPS regulations, and features individual monitors on each seat for in-flight entertainment, a CD player and an on-board bar. It flies primarily to destinations in Europe, the near East and north Africa.\r"The first weeks were a bit slow, but now it is in the air almost every day. The bigger aircraft has had a good customer reaction," said Panu Dahme, spokesman for SFD. "Most of the charter companies at Stuttgart are not big enough to operate a jet in this category."\rSFD reports plans to buy more jets but has made no firm commitments as yet. Dahme admits that the company is concerned about the forthcoming DaimlerChrysler presence at Stuttgart airport. The giant corporation already flies its Airbus 320 from Stuttgart to Detroit four times a week, and is currently buying more jets which could compete directly with SFD.\r"The question will be whether they will just stick to long-haul flying, or short flights," said Dahme. "We think they will specialise in larger, long range charter aircraft."
