ATR is busy despite Danish competition
Danish Air Transport has reported a strong demand for its new ATR 42-320 in its dual role as a charter passenger aircraft and ad-hoc freight transporter. The new aeroplane replaced an Embraer 120 bought two years ago for the executive charter market. "The Embraer 120 was a very successful aircraft, but as we are also a cargo operator, we felt that we could use an aircraft with a cargo door and cargo potential," said Jasper Rungholm, spokesman for Danish Air Transport.

Danish Air Transport has reported a strong demand for its new ATR 42-320 in its dual role as a charter passenger aircraft and ad-hoc freight transporter. \rThe new aeroplane replaced an Embraer 120 bought two years ago for the executive charter market. "The Embraer 120 was a very successful aircraft, but as we are also a cargo operator, we felt that we could use an aircraft with a cargo door and cargo potential," said Jasper Rungholm, spokesman for Danish Air Transport.\rThe introduction of the ATR 42-320 did not go entirely to plan, however. The 42-seater arrived in the middle of May, poised to embark upon a busy June schedule, but the company was unable to find a pilot for more than a month, because of the boom in demand for air crew throughout Denmark and Europe as a whole. \r"We feel when we have booked a charter agreement, we have to fulfil it. Sub-chartering our commitments in June was a very costly exercise - some UK£90,000 - as we only had two days which were not fully booked in the whole month," explained Rungholm. "We have proved to the market that when we book a charter, we honour it."\rAccording to Danish Air Transport, the ATR 42-320 is carrying upwards of 25 passengers on most trips, to destinations as far afield as Africa and Azerbaijan. It has also been booked as a support aircraft for the Dakar Rally in January. "Demand for business air charter in Denmark is slightly down on last year, and there are more operators in the market, although October is looking as though it will busy," said Rungholm.
