Cirrus Design Corporation has lived up to its word and delivered the first SR20 aircraft despite the fatal crash involving the first production aircraft, piloted by the then chief test pilot Major Scott Anderson. In a presentation witnessed by the company's employees and a number of on-lookers, Cirrus president and ceo Alan Klapmeier presented the keys of the first SR20 to Walt Conley of Plymouth, Minnesota, US.\rOn what he declared to be 'a great day for Cirrus Design and general aviation', Klapmeier said, "Dale {Klapmeier, executive vice president} and I are proud of our employees, shareholders and customers, all of whom helped make this day possible." He told those present that there are now 324 SR20s on order and he expects the first 100 of these to be delivered within twelve months.\r"We are currently ramping up for production," said Matt Kull, director of production. "Our next objective is to increase production to one plane per week." The manufacturer says it has secured funding and is poised to add to its 241-strong workforce to increase production rates.\rDespite the aircraft's chequered conception, the first customer showed no sign of doubt as he received his aircraft. "For my wife Marianne and me this day is the culmination of a long journey that we and Cirrus have taken together," said Conley. "Flying the SR20 raises general aviation safety up a notch."
