Nevers Fourchambault in central France is used to handling only a small number of flights per year but all that changes in the spring due to the close proximity of the Magny Cours racing track. The recent French Grand Prix saw a five-day period of intense activity as the airstrip handled aircraft for the drivers, teams and spectators.\rOn the day of the event itself ramp manager Philippe Platek recorded 42 arrivals between 05.00 and 11.00 GMT followed by 48 departures between 14.20 and 17.35 GMT. Among the aircraft that used the airfield were a Challenger 604, a CitationJet, an HS125 and Falcon 50.\rSpectators arrived in a variety of aircraft, mostly from the Paris airports CDG and Le Bourget, including Saab 340s, an ATR 42, an Embraer 120, a British World ATP in a 55 seat configuration and a CASA CN-235 from the French Air Force for skyjumping purposes. An estimated 35,000 litres of Jet A1 and Avgas fuel was supplied by Air BP over the course of the Grand Prix weekend. The French Grand Prix has been held at the race track since 1993: "Formula 1 has chosen May 7 for next year - so Nevers again!" Platek said.
