Proof of concept flights on the Gulfstream V Enhanced Vision System (EVS) have started and final certification is scheduled for spring 2000. In what the company is describing as 'the first major breakthrough in precision approach and landing systems in nearly eighty years', visual cues available to the pilot at night and in low visibility conditions have been improved through the use of an infrared thermal imaging processing system that overlays the real world. The price is expected to be under $500,000 per system and it will first be available in spring next year.
