The general aviation industry continues to report increased aircraft shipments and billings through the second quarter of 1999 according to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). Total billings were up dramatically to $3.5 billion for the first six months of 1999, a 45.1 per cent increase compared to $2.4 billion last year.\rTotal aircraft unit shipments for the first half of 1999 increased 13.5 per cent to 1,082 units, up from 953 units in the first two quarters of 1998. Export billings jumped 82.8 per cent to $1.2 billion for the first six months of this year compared to $644 million for the first half of 1998. Export shipments remained near the same levels at 241 units delivered through the second quarter of 1999 compared to 251 in 1998.\rJet deliveries were up 32.4 per cent, totalling 225 aircraft in the first six months of 1999 compared to 170 units through the second quarter of 1998. Turboprops were stable with 112 units in the first six months of 1999 compared to 111 units shipped in the first half of last year.
