Air Luxor has claimed that it has become the first company in Portugal to certify an air ambulance aircraft. The Citation II, based in Lisbon, has been modified by the company's maintenance facilities. It includes a life support system and full medical resources. Air Luxor owns the aircraft's medical equipment and maintains a pool of 12 doctors, five nurses and three paramedics. Medical teams are on 24 hour standby in case of emergency. The Lisbon air ambulance is the second to be operated by the company, which already has a Citation SII on similar duties in Paris. Customers for the air ambulance are most often insurance companies, according to sources at Air Luxor. "Air Luxor operates presently a fleet of 16 business jets, 14 of them in passenger configuration only. Availability is usually not a problem," said Andreia Criner, spokeswoman for Air Luxor. "The two air ambulance aircraft can be converted into passenger configuration in two to four hours, but their primary job is to perform air ambulance work and contracts.
