The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed an agreement with Bombardier Aerospace to purchase two used Global 6500 aircraft, which will replace the aircraft that currently constitute the country's head of state aviation capability. The agreement also includes initial training of crews and technicians. The contract value is approximately SEK 1.1 billion.
The VIP-configured Global 6500 have been designated Tp 106 within the Swedish Air Force and, after delivery to the Armed Forces, will replace the a Gulfstream IV and G550 that currently constitute the government VIP transport fleet. The purpose of purchasing the two aircraft is to improve the availability of state aviation. The aircraft also provide synergies with the Sweden's S 106 GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft, which are largely based on the same airframe and are already in service.
"The new aircraft represent a modernisation of the current fleet and ensure the availability of state aviation over time. Unlike the current system, the individual aircraft are identical, which also simplifies handling by the Armed Forces. The implementation of the deal has been characterised by good cooperation between the authorities and the supplier Bombardier," says Björn Hellbom, project manager Tp 106, FMV.
Delivery of the aircraft is planned to FMV in November and December 2025, respectively.
