TAG’s Angel takes to the skies

TAG Aviation's Trained Pilot Scheme, an in-house pilot training progamme aimed at fostering local talent, was established in 2015 and sponsors TAG employees to become a pilot from ab-initio to a full type rating on a business jet. Angel Wun is the latest member of the programme and will gain her first type rating on a Gulfstream 650, which starts this month at CAE Singapore.

Angel has been instructing at TAG’s sister company, Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) in Australia since 2019, finishing her tour as a Grade Two Instructor with instrument and multi-engine training approval. Angel was also awarded the Sir Donald Anderson Award in 2022 with her CASA ATPL results.

According to Angel, teaching from a single engine to a twin-engine aircraft, from VFR to IFR has given her a unique insight, with the added satisfaction of helping students go through their training, and was irreplaceable in her gaining the required experience. This in turn has polished Angel’s flying skills and built her confidence and assertiveness. By the end of her journey with FTA, Angel had accrued more than 2,100 flying hours.

Angel had the extra pressure of completing the programme during some challenging times including the pandemic, which lasted longer in Asia, but through sheer determination and hard work, she completed the programme.

After four years, Angel is pleased to rejoin TAG Aviation as a junior first officer, moving from flying as an instructor on a piston engine aircraft to flying a business jet.

“I shall always be extremely grateful and honoured for the opportunity and resources TAG has given me to fly as an instructor, obtaining both CASA ATPL and FAA ATP theory and now the type rating on a G650. I want to thank TAG for its dedication and nurturing me as a cadet pilot, I am so proud to be part of this amazing programme and look forward to flying a TAG aircraft in the spirit and endeavour TAG upholds,” she said.

“I am extremely proud and pleased for Angel as she returns from her training and instructing at FTA to fly for TAG. This initiative continues TAG’s theme of aviation heritage and to highlight that we are true and professional aviators,” commented Steven Young, president, TAG Aviation.

Angel will be the thirrd pilot after Tinny Tse and Lawrence Lau to fly for TAG. These previous cadets are both type rated on a Global 6000 and flying on the TAG fleet. The latest candidate is Jonathan Tam, who started the training last year and is currently instructing at FTA.
