Besides the transport of up to 19 passengers the aircraft can be configured for various special mission roles like maritime surveillance, border and fishery patrol, oil pollution control as well as environmental research. The Do 228 New Generation is a completely modernized and enhanced Do 228-212 which was in production until 1999. Fuselage, wings and tail unit are manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Kanpur (India) and transported to Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, where RUAG Aviation carries out aircraft final assembly and outfitting. The most visible enhancements:

• State-of-the-art navigation and communication systems

• New five-bladed composite propeller

• New cabin layout with new comfort seats

The new Do 228 NG features excellent flight characteristics such as short-take-off capability, high payload and long range as well as its capability to take-off and land from unpaved runways with limited ground support services.

The aircraft will be already delivered by RUAG Aviation to Lufttransport AS in September 2010 and brings the Do 228 NG order book to 12 aircraft.
