Installation of four- and five-blade propeller on Cessna 208 Blackhawk series now certified in Brazil

MT-Propeller Entwicklung GmbH has received the Brazilian ANAC STC No. 2018S06-12 for the installation of the next generation five-blade quiet fan jet scimitar composite propeller MTV-27-1-E-C-F-R(P)/CFR245-55a or the four-blade scimitar composite propeller MTV-16-1-E-C-F-R(P)/CFR250-55a on the Cessna 208, 208B Blackhawk powered by Pratt & Whitney PT6A-42A engines and optional increased Gross Weight and the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-140 engine and optional increased Gross Weight.

These installations are already certified under EASA STC 10058942 and FAA STC SA03959NY (certification for PT6A-140 i.p. by FAA).

MT-Propeller vice president Martin Albrecht states that the five-blade QFJ MTV-27 propeller on the C208 Blackhawk features the following advantages:

- 200 ft shorter take-off distance

- 3 kts cruise speed increase

- more ground clearance because of a smaller diameter for less blade tip erosion

- Optional rpm reduction to 1950 rpm: All models comply with the strict German 2010 "Landeplatz Lärmschutz Verordnung“ noise regulations for unrestricted airport operations in Germany and other European countries

- XP140 installation: All models comply with the strict German 2010 "Landeplatz Lärmschutz Verordnung“ noise regulations for unrestricted airport operations in Germany and other European countries.

The installation of the four-blade MTV-16 on the C208 Blackhawk provides the following advantages:

- Cruise speed increase by 3 kts.

- Approximately 35 lbs less weight than the original propeller

- increased ground clearance because of a smaller diameter for less blade tip erosion

- Significant outside and inside noise reduction

The MT-Propeller natural composite propellers have no life limitation and are repairable in case of an FOD.

They also provide best vibration damping characteristics for almost vibration free propeller operation and have bonded on nickel alloy leading edges for superior erosion protection of the blades.

MT-Propeller is the world leading natural composite propeller manufacturer with 30 propeller models from two-blade to seven-blade hydraulically controlled variable pitch propellers for engines producing up to 5000hp, and two-blade to four-blade electrically controlled variable pitch propellers for engines producing up to 350hp as well as two blade fixed pitch propellers.

The high performance, light weight and durable MT-Propellers can be used on aircraft with piston engines and propeller turbines, as well as on airships, wind tunnels or hovercraft.

Fulfilling the highest certifications requirements they are also supplemental type certified on Part 25 aircraft.

MT-Propeller is the holder of over 210 STCs worldwide and the OEM supplier for more than 90% of the European aircraft industry as well as 30% of the US aircraft industry. 20,000 propeller systems with more than 70,000 blades are in service.
