Viking Air Limited of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, is pleased to recognize MASwings of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia for the exceptional utilization of its Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft. The utilization award recognizes MASwings' fleet of Series 400 Twin Otters achieving 40,000 hours in service.
MASwings, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, has been operating legacy Twin Otters for over thirty years, and is currently the largest commercial operator of Viking Series 400 Twin Otters.
MASwings' fleet of six Viking Series 400 aircraft have been in commercial service in Malaysia since 2013, operating as regional commuters in the interior of Sabah and Sarawak, the two Malaysian states in Borneo.
“It seems like yesterday that MASwings took delivery of our 50th production Series 400 aircraft,” commented David Curtis, president and CEO of Viking Air Limited, "and to now see them reaching this notable milestone is a testament to their operation and to the reliability of the Series 400 Twin Otter.”
MASwings Series 400 Twin Otters are configured with a full IFR Honeywell Primus Apex digital avionics suite, complete with two primary and one secondary GPS backed navigation system, Flight Management System, TAWS, TCAS I, and EGPWS. MASwings was also the launch airline for Latitude Technologies SkyNode and IONode, an Iridium satellite communication package with WIFI enabled flight data acquisition, recording and reporting aircraft trend monitoring system.
