interCaribbean Airways signs preferred supplier agreement with Thomas Global Systems to deliver TFD-8601 LCD cockpit displays to EMB-120 fleet

Thomas Global Systems, a leader in the design, production and support of innovative electronics solutions for aerospace and defence applications, announced today at MRO Americas that it has signed an agreement with interCaribbean Airways in relation to Thomas Global's TFD-8601 cockpit display, a pioneering plug-and-play LCD replacement for ageing CRT displays in corporate and regional aircraft including the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia. Under the multi-year preferred supplier agreement, Thomas Global Systems will retrofit interCaribbean Airway's fleet of up to ten EMB 120 aircraft.

The TFD-8601 display is a pioneering plug-and-play, Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) replacement for legacy cathode ray tube (CRT) displays. Incorporating a high-performance, high-resolution AMLCD, the TFD-8601 provides improved reliability and reduced costs compared to legacy CRT displays, with lower weight, less heat and reduced power consumption. The product retains the use of all existing cockpit systems and makes provision for additional functionality to be included to suit current and evolving mandates, technology and operator requirements. The upgrade can be completed quickly with no changes to existing cockpit panels or wiring, and no crew retraining or changes to flight simulators – minimizing disruption to aircraft operations.

The TFD-8601 Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) upgrade was developed in partnership with Regional Express, one of the world's leading regional airlines. Thomas Global received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the display on the Embraer EMB 120 in September 2016, achieved as part of a collaborative effort with leading EMB 120 operator Ameriflight. In 2017 at the Australian International Airshow in Avalon, Thomas Global received the Civil Industry National Innovation Award for the TFD-8601 display.
