Press Release
Issued by SmartSky Networks.
November 16, 2015
Davinci Jets has agreed to become a SmartSky Networks Early Bird customer, securing its place as the first aircraft management company to offer 4G LTE-based Internet connectivity. Davinci Jets currently manages 13 airplanes in five locations in the southeastern United States. Bringing this new, high-speed in-cabin Wi-Fi to its management and charter customers exemplifies a leading-edge approach that serves as a platform for continued growth. Davinci Jets will begin outfitting its fleet with the SmartSky 4G LTE-based system in 2016.
"We understand how transformative SmartSky's patented technology can be for our clientele," says Eric Legvold, ceo of Davinci Jets and vp of flight operations at SmartSky Networks. "This gives them the best high-speed connectivity at a great price so they can make the time on their aircraft just as efficient as their office.”
The current air-to-ground in-flight network relies on 3MHz of spectrum and 3G technology, resulting in slow speeds and lots of buffering on congested flight routes. However, the SmartSky 4G LTE-based system will utilize 60MHz of spectrum and beamforming to deliver more than 10 times the performance currently available.
“Davinci Jet's customers will receive the gold-standard inflight Internet experience they have long desired, one that only SmartSky can deliver,” says SmartSky Networks president Ryan Stone.
Davinci Jets, formerly named Jetpool, is deeply intertwined with SmartSky's corporate history. In 2008, Davinci's clients expressed their desire for an inflight Internet connection that could replicate the experience in their offices and homes. Because the existing solutions were not up to this task, the Davinci principals began scouting out novel technologies to create a new solution to meet this pressing need. From that search, SmartSky Networks was born.
The agreement was announced to the industry at the NBAA2015 National Business Aviation Association conference being held in Las Vegas, November 17-19, 2015.
