FlightSafety International has announced that Scott Goodwin has been named executive director, simulation.

“Scott's 30 years of experience with aircraft operations and training in the U.S. Air Force, and his contributions to FlightSafety since joining us in 2014, make him uniquely qualified to take on this important role,” said John Van Maren, vice president, simulation.

Scott joined FlightSafety as deputy director for special projects. In his new role as executive director, Scott will assist the vice president simulation in overseeing daily operations and conducting long range planning.

He served in the United States Air Force for over 30 years and retired with the rank of brigadier general in 2013. Scott was most recently director of operations for Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He oversaw the training and evaluation of more than 20,000 flight crew personnel operating 1,300 aircraft around the world. His responsibilities included presidential and nuclear airlift, cargo and passenger movement, aerial refueling and aero-medical evacuation missions. Scott directed the evaluation and certification program for a fleet of 72 full flight simulators for a variety of aircraft types.

Scott was the director of Mobility Forces during the Libyan crisis and oversaw all aerial refueling operations for U.S. and coalition combat aircraft. He also served as the director of the Deployment and Distribution Operations Center in Kuwait and operations group commander at Balad Air Base. Scott served in Washington, DC on the Joint Staff in the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate and as one of the team leads for the National Military Command Center. He has commanded at the squadron, group, wing and task force levels, and is a highly experienced pilot with over 3,500 hours primarily in the C-130, C-5M and C-21 aircraft.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master of Science and Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University as a Guggenheim Fellow, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. Scott is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Fellows program from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
