Heliservices (HK) Ltd is excited to announce the introduction of the latest aircraft to its fleet, the MD902 Explorer helicopter. This new aircraft represents a leap forward in terms of technology, efficiency, comfort and economy and is the first in a series of aircraft that will replace Heliservices' existing mixed fleet of AS355N Squirrel and AS315B Lama helicopters currently in operation.
The MD902 is considered to be one of the best multi-role aircraft in its class with an excellent safety record and the added benefit of twin-turbine engines. In its primary sightseeing role, the aircraft can seat up to seven passengers and has two large side windows which offer excellent viewing opportunities. The aircraft is much more stable and smoother than its predecessors which makes it an excellent platform for photography and filming work. The helicopter can also be fitted with an external load cargo hook and can carry up to 1,050 kgs in its utility role. Most importantly, with its five-bladed rotor and NOTAR propulsion system, this helicopter has a very low noise signature and is one of the quietest in its class ensuring minimal disturbance while in flight. The MD902 is an extremely capable aircraft and represents a very bright future for the continued growth and development of Heliservices' business in Hong Kong.
The aircraft is planned to come into service in April 2014 which coincides with the launch of Heliservices' new sightseeing operation from the Conference & Exhibition Centre (CEC) in Wan Chai. With services on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 2pm, tourists and the general public alike will have the opportunity to experience a flight on the new aircraft around the Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island for only $1200 per seat.
