Piaggio delivers fourth flight inspection P.180 to ENAV

Today the fourth P.180 Avanti II Flight Inspection aircraft purchased from Piaggio Aero Industries has been presented at Ciampino Airport, at the ENAV Flight Inspection hangar.

The delivery ceremony took place in the presence of the hon. Maurizio Lupi, Minister of Infrastructures and Transport. ENAV was represented by ceo Massimo Garbini and general manager Massimo Bellizzi, with ceo Alberto Galassi and general manager Eligio Trombetta representing Piaggio Aero Industries.

In the context of the activities for flight safety and regularity, ENAV also ensures radio signals for routes and airport radio communications in order to validate the accuracy of the indications provided and compliance with international standards.

The company has its own fleet of four P.180 Avanti II Flight Inspection aircraft for this purpose, equipped with the latest generation technology.

The new ENAV aircraft, certified for radio measurement and calibration, is classified as "radio measurement working aircraft" and thanks to the state of the art systems and the operational efficiency of the platform, the P180 Flight Inspections can promptly conduct flight measurement of all the procedures and assistance, radio, radar and visual, installed throughout Italian territory.

Being compliant with ICAO and NATO standards, they can also be used to carry out this activity abroad.

The purchase was necessary to maintain the high safety standards in the Italian airports, further improving the efficiency of air traffic, and to supply this service in some foreign airports following some important contracts achieved by ENAV in recent months.

The twin turboprop P180 Flight Inspection aircraft, special mission version for radio measurement and calibration of the P.180 Avanti II, have performance similar to those of a jet with 40% lower fuel consumption, with resulting operational efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.

The aircraft is certified for steep landing procedures, an essential ability in missions for radio measurement and calibration of airport control systems.

Thanks to state of the art systems and the operational efficiency of the platform, the P180 Avanti II Flight Inspection can undertake flight inspection of all the radio, radar and visual procedures and assistance.

The new P.180 Avanti II Flight Inspection unit can guarantee measurement and control of the following operational systems:

Radio Signals systems

ILS: Instrumental Landing System -automatic landing procedures under any environmental conditions.

VOR: Vhf Omnidirectional Radio Range - Radio navigation system.

TACAN: Tactical Air Navigation - Military frequency radio navigation system.

MLS, DME-P: Microwave Landing System - Low frequency landing system.

VDF: Vhf Direction Finder - directional radio frequency finder.

COM UHF and UF: Radio communications systems.

PAPI: Precision Approach Path Indicator - Airport landing lights system, Ground Radar, Satellite Navigation systems, radio interference monitoring, signal quality monitoring.
