The sale of Weston Airport was completed last month, with the Dublin airport being sold to a Galway-based civil engineering group Brian Conneely & Co Associates.
The sale of Weston Airport marks the first sale of an airport in Ireland for more than 30 years, and the buyers, Brian Conneely & Co Associates said they were hopeful the sale would "mark a turning point" in Irish aviation, and act as a "sign of optimism" for the economy. A spokesman for the new owners said this week that they were "delighted" with the purchase due to its "proud tradition in Irish aviation", adding that they hoped to engage with local stakeholders.
The airport will now be rebranded as Dublin Weston Airport and will cater for the executive market, a sector that is growing again for the first time in more than five years. Dublin Airport currently handles approximately 8000 business jet movements per year so there is plenty of scope for an alternative executive service.
