Cello Aviation gains approval to operate from Sion

Luxury charter carrier Cello Aviation has been cleared to operate from Sion airport in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Sion is ideally located in the heart of the Valais Alps. The airport is right next to the largest ski resorts such as Verbier, les 4 vallées, Crans-Montana, Saas-fee, Zermatt, and very near many thermal resorts. However, the airport's mountain location means that it is only accessible to aircraft capable of coping with a steep approach and take-off and Cello's BAE 146 is ideally suited to this task.

The approval to fly into Sion is seen as an important development enabling Cello to serve customers wishing to fly directly into the heart of the best ski resorts in Europe. Sion has been a candidate for the winter Olympic Games on three occasions most recently in 2006 when the games were eventually staged in Turin.

"This location demonstrates the qualities of our aircraft which can operate into airports where there is a steep approach and take off such as at Sion or where there is a short runway. We can fly our customers directly to where they want to go and so avoid time consuming and inconvenient transfers by road or rail," said Vince Essex of Cello.

The aircraft flies in a 46 seat configuration with leather seating and all the facilities expected by passengers demanding luxury and style. The seats have a pitch of 43 inches which is substantially greater than first class on international carriers and the aircraft can also be branded with the livery of its corporate clients.

Cello Aviation, based at Birmingham International Airport, operates high end charter services for VIP clients that include international corporate clients and European football clubs and artists and celebrities from the entertainment industry both here in the UK and throughout Europe.

Cello can carry up to 3,000kg of cargo which enables it to carry Skis and other equipment. Cello cabin crew can serve hot and cold VIP menus from its galley using fresh ingredients sourced locally where possible from the West Midlands area.

Cello Aviation is part of the Gill Group.
